Drogheda moves 2016-17

Drogheda's Local Education Committee is delighted to announce the Launch of their initiative 'Drogheda Moves'.

Building on from the success of 'Drogheda Reads Roddy Doyle', 'Drogheda Counts' and more recently 'Drogheda Minds' is aimed at encouraging people of all ages to become active and lead healthy lifestyles.

Drogheda Moves will consist of the following three stages:

Phase 1 - Drogheda Walks the World
Phase 2 - Operation Transformation
Phase 3 - Outdoor Activities

In order to take part in phase 1 'Drogheda Walks the World', we are encouraging the people of Drogheda to sign up to track their steps.
We are inviting children, adults, local schools, Youth/Community Groups, Sports Clubs and Gyms to get involved. Whether you are walking to work everyday, running a marathon, taking part in exercise class or playing a sport match, by wearing one of our pedometers, you can track your steps, send them into us on a montly basis and help Drogheda achieve its goal of 32 million steps, the number of steps it would take to walk the world.

Please check out our facebook page@ 'Drogheda Moves', for information on our upcoming Community Events, Walking Groups, Exercise Classes and much more.

Congratulations to the St Oliver's staff who narrowly beat the students pedometer step count last week. The students ended the week with 1,303,000 steps, however, the staff finished with a grand total of 1,319,000 steps. Well done to all involved over the past two weeks and congratulations to Ms McEntee who travelled furthest for the staff clocking up 53,416.
