On Thursday 16th March, months of hard work paid off for the St. Oliver's CC Game of Banks team when they reached the National Finals of the AIB Build A Bank competition. Danny Onianwa, Barry Tiernan, Ciall Molloy, Colm Gallagher, Mariam Alaga and Fiona Callanan were the successful TY students chosen to form the student bank this year and launched their Game of Thrones themed bank on December 9th last at the TY Enterprise Fair. Since then they have opened their bank every Wednesday at lunch opening accounts for almost 50 students and taking in lodgements for both new and returning customers.
The students have promoted their bank with posters, class visits, weekly announcements and most importantly a strong online presence. Game of Banks can be found on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and their own website gameofbanksireland.com.
They have also been involved with the school and wider community and have taken part in many events such as bake sales, enterprise fairs and the TY Stay Awake raising awareness and funds for charities such as Show Racism the Red Card, Irish Cancer Society, The Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre and Barretstown. They have also represented the school at talks for Drogheda Young Innovators and AIB's LAB.
In preparation for Nationals on April 25th, the team are working away on their displays, speeches and social media. They are also organising a quiz for the Junior Business Studies classes where they have many prizes to give away.
The team would like to thank their sponsors for their support and look forward to a great day on April 25th.
