IRELAND ACE NEWMAN JOINS ELITE

TY student Shauna Newman is looking forward to competing for Ireland in next springs Uefa European U-17 championship Elite phase - after helping her country knock out Italy in the opening qualifying round. The republic beat Romania 3-2 and hosts Macedonia 6-0, before drawing 1-1 with the Italians to ensure they finished top of their group in that forst phase, with the Drogheda girl featuring in all three games. Shauna and her teammates are now awaiting the draw for the Elite phase which will be on November 15th. The four section winners in the second qualifying round in the spring progress to the European Championship Finals.

ST FARNANS, KILDARE 1 - 10 ST OLIVERS K.O. 11:35

St Oliver's got off to a flying start when Sam Newman opened the scoring after 6 mins. Shauna Newman doubled the score line after 12 mins - when she tested the keeper from the half way line. A corner in the 21st minute from Shauna gave Sam her second goal of the game. Shauna scored her second 4 minutes later. Megan McArdle was unlucky not to get on score sheet after some terrific individual play. Sam finished off the first half with her hatrick 3 mins from time.

The 2nd half started with more pressure from st Oliver's - 12 minutes in Shauna completed her hatrick by chipping the keeper. St Farnans pulled one back with some fine individual play from their number 11. St Olivers continued to rack up the scores with goals from Debbie Maughan, Shauna Newman and a brace from Kim Lane.

Best for St Oliver's Shauna Newman, Sam Newman and Siobhan McCluskey.

ST OLIVERS 1-4 LORETO, BALBRIGGAN

Loreto took the lead after 15 mins, St Olivers tried to find an equaliser before half time but as they pressed forward Loreto doubled their lead. Half time score 2-0. The second half started better for home team who were unlucky not to score and were punished by Loreto, St Oliver's did find the net through Debbie Maughan. Final score 1-4.

ST OLIVERS 2-1 LORETO, BALBRIGGAN

Both teams started very lively with both sides having early chances, Loreto took the lead but St Oliver's were soon on level term through Sam Newman. An evenly matched 1st half finished level. St Oliver's started better in the 2nd half but failed to find the net until a superb free kick by captain Shauna Newman proved to Good for the keeper.
That proved to need the decider, final score 2-1.

ARDGILLAN 1-3 ST OLIVERS

After 15 minutes St. Oliver's were rewarded for their efforts when captain Megan McArdle set up for Debbie Maughan to slot home past the keeper. St Oliver's piled on the pressure but had to make do with a 1-0 lead at half time.

A change of tactics saw goal keeper Lauren Kiely switch to outfield in the 2nd half - that was rewarded when she took advantage of a mistake from the defence and scored 3 minutes after the restart. 10 mins for the end Jessica Flood put the match beyond Ardgillian. Ardgillan did get a consolation goal. Match finished 3-1.

ST OLIVER'S 7-1 ST LOUIS, DUNDALK

The game started lively for both sides but St Oliver's took the lead as Sam Newman punished the defence. Megan McArdle scored an excellent volley to make it two nil. 5 minutes from the break Shauna Newman made it three scoring from a free kick.

The 2nd half started much the same as the 1st - St Louis were not giving up but St Oliver's punished them when McArdle scored her second. Louis got one back but it was much too late as the goals kept coming for the home side - Shauna Newman scored her second and Megan McArdle completed her hat-trick and an outstanding performance. Late on Kim Lane was brought down in the box and Shauna Newman scored from penalty spot bringing her tally to 3
