Languages Connect

St Oliver’s students participate in Languages Connect School Exchange programme

Our Spanish Department is running a language exchange in March and April with our partner school Alkala Najar in Alcala de Henares outside Madrid, Spain. Excitement is growing as the group of 23 students and 2 teachers make final preparations for their upcoming trip.

We will spend a week in this old university town, honing our language skills and savoring Spanish hospitality and culture. Our students will stay with host families and attend classes in Alkala Najar. Day trips to Toledo, Segovia and Madrid are part of the exciting itinerary of activities planned. Our Spanish host students will then pay a return visit to St Oliver’s and Drogheda from April 6th to 12th.

This exchange is part of Languages Connect, Ireland’s Strategy for Foreign Languages in Education. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to experience total immersion in the language they have been studying since first year. They will experience life with their host family, make new friends and learn to be more independent.

"Day 4 and we're in Toledo, a beautiful historical 5,000 year old city. Our students have made friendships for life with our exchange school."

We wish to welcome to St.Oliver´s the students and teachers of our Spanish exchange school.  Last month our students visited them in Spain, where they had a wonderful time, and now we hope that the students of Alcala Nahar have a very happy stay in our school this week.
