The Breakfast Club 2016-17


Students from St. Oliver's Community College took to te stage recently with their production of the iconic 1980's fim 'The Breakfast Club'. The production featured a range of actors who won the Bord Gais Energy Theatre awards in 2015 and the group did themselves proud recreating the roles made famous by Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy and Emilio Estevez.
The production was directed by Ms. Carr with audiences and performers agreeing she did a fantastic job. The event proved to be ahuge success with audiences thrilled to see the popular 1980s hit brought to life on stage by the very capable past from St Oliver's Community College. A massive buzz was created in both the school and the town in anticipation of the production. The fantastic production took place over three nights in the Little Duke Theatre on Duke Street. There were packed audiences for each of the three evening shows on October 17th, 18th and 19th as well as at the matinees, which took place at 1pm on October 18th and 19th.
The film premiered in Los Angeles on 7 February 1985. Universal Pictures released the film in cinemas on February 15, 1985 in the United States. Critics consider it one of the the greatest high school films of all time, as well as one of Hughes' most memorable and recognizble works. The media referred to the film's five main actors as members of a group called the 'Brat Pack'.
