NORTH LEINSTER ROUND 1
ST OLIVERS 0-13 BUSH PP 2-7

St Oliver's came back from a five point deficit mid way through the second have to setup a tense closing few minutes in this opening round fixture. St Oliver's made a brighter start to the game with corner forward Cian O Brien scoring two early points after good work from Nathan Lewellyn and Philp Kirwan. But despite St Oliver's early supremacy missed chances would prove costly as Bush struck for a goal in the closing minutes of the first half to put them a a point up going into the break.
Bush started the second half in impressive fashion and put our lads under serious pressure as the got in for another goal and notched another point in quick succession to put them five up. Subs Ciaran Reilly and Adam Carroll began to influence proceedings for St Oliver's and top marksman Cian Brady began to make the pressure tell as he took on the Bush defenders very time he got the ball and scored a couple of excellent points to bring St Oliver's back into contention. It didn't look as it was going to be St Oliver's day however as a combination of post, crossbar and excellent shot stopping from the Bush net minder saw several goal chances wasted.
This team however have great character and despite those misses St Oliver's continued to pile pressure on the visitors; points from David Andrews, Cian Brady and Nathan Lewellyn put St Oliver's a point ahead. With so much effort being put into attack there were large gaps left at the back and Bush evened up the game with a point on the break to make sure the game finished all square.

St Oliver's had some hugely impressive performances throughout, Goalkeeper Caoihin O Brien did well in goal, the full-back line consisting of Stephen McEvoy in the middle and flanked by his brother Paul and Ben Bannon on the other side were St Oliver's best line on the day. Philip Kirwan led impressively throughout in the middle and forwards Cian Brady and David Andrews provided the firepower up top. The man-of-the-match however goes to wing forward Nathan Lewellyn who worked tirelessly throughout and was the instigator for much of what St Oliver's did well on the day.

NORTH LEINSTER ROUND 2
ST OLIVERS 4-11 ATHBOY 3-3

St Olivers defeated Athboy in the second round of their North Leinster campaign to set up a crucial last round decider away to Nobber. Similarly to the last round tie against Bush, St Oliver's made much of the early running, with midfielder Eoghan O Carroll and corner forward Cian Brady finishing well worked moves. St Oliver's also spurned a couple of early goal chances with Cian Brady and Norbert Potomski twice coming close. Visitors Athboy then found their way into the game with a well taken free but their inaccuracy in front of goal with the wind at their backs in the first half was to cost them in the end. Nathan Lewellyn made a couple of surging runs through the Athboy defense after good initial work from Ciaran Reilly to set up a Philip Kirwan point and a further goal from Cian Brady stretched St Oliver's lead to five going into the break.

David Andrews started the second half for St Oliver's with a well taken point, but the hosts were rocked as Athboy struck for two goals in quick succession to bring the teams level. St Oliver's saw out this period of sustained Athboy pressure and Norbert Potomski made the post of a loose ball around the square to slide in for St Oliver's second goal.
It was all St Oliver's from here on in and despite making a number of changes in personnel St Oliver's added further points from Philip Kirwan (2) and Cian Brady (1) to put a bit of distance between the teams on the scoreboard.

Cian Brady was a thorn in the Athboy side all day and with a personal tally of 2-5 was a deserved man of the match. The full back line of Ben Bannon, brothers Stephen and Paul McEvoy and midfielder Philip Kirwan were also notable performers for St Oliver's. Eoghan o Carroll deserves a mention also as he made the switch to midfield from his customary wing forward position and worked diligently from start to finish.

St Oliver's: Caoimhin O Brien, Ben Bannon, Stephen McEvoy, Paul McEvoy, James Carroll, Shane Brodigan, Nuel Onianwa, Philip Kirwan, Eoghan O Carroll, Ciaran Reilly, David Andrews, Nathan Lewellyn, Donald Campbell, Norbert Potomski, Cian Brady, Hayden Fitzpatrick, Brandon Kavanagh, Ronan Little, Paddy Coleman, Sean Gibney, Evan Lynch, JJ McGahon, Aaron Duffy, Ben Flaherty

O'MOORE SHIELD SEMI-FINAL
ST OLIVERS BEAT O'FIACH COLLEGE, DUNDALK

O'MOORE SHIELD FINAL
ST OLIVERS 2-10 SCOIL UÍ MHUIRÍ, DUNLEER 2-6

Despite the heavy rain across the country over the past few days, the 2016 U-16 Flood shield final took place in perfect conditions in Darver. St Oliver's easily disposed of O'Fiach College in their semi-final whereas Dunleer overcame St Mary's, Drogheda in a closely contested encounter. Silverware for both schools in recent years has being sparse, so both teams were eager to seize this opportunity. St Oliver's were without key players Cian Brady and Eoghan O Carroll, but the addition of the Harper twins James and Adam to the panel have given St Olivers more options at both ends of the field.

St Oliver's were devastated by an opening five minute blitz from St Joseph's in the U-14 final two years ago , and they were determined to make a strong start to this contest. James Carroll made the move to midfield for this game following the absence of Eoghan O Carroll and it was his early solo run and miscued shot that fell to midfield partner Shane Brodigan to palm the ball to the back of the Dunleer net to give St Oliver's exactly the start that they wanted. In fact it was this duo that orchestrated things for St Oliver's in the opening quarter as they were winning the midfield battle and breaking forward at will. So much so that Shane Brodigan got in in for another spurned goal chance before settling for a point. Half forward Nathan Lewellyn tagged on another point before Dunleer registered their first score. Hayden Fitzpatrick who was to go on and have his best game in a St Oliver's jersey broke through the opposition rearguard at ease to finish neatly for his first point of the day.
Just as St Oliver's were beginning to look comfortable, Dunleer broke out of defense and produced a well worked goal of their own. St Oliver's bright start had the gloss taken off it. The outright focus on attack, saw us caught for numbers at the back and despite the hardwork of No.6 Nuel Onianwa there was now only a couple of points between the teams. James Carroll who was really showing well at this stage, got St Oliver's moving again with an excellent solo effort before Dunleer replied with another score of their own. In The closing minutes of the half St Oliver's in form corner forward Hayden Fitzpatrick stole through the Dunleer defense once again to put two between the teams.
As the half wore on Dunleer pressed upfield and despite their full forward missing a good goal chance they created another overlap, to create a clear run on goal and this time they made no mistake, finishing well to the St Oliver's net to see them head in to the break with an unlikely one point lead.
Despite a good half from St Oliver's, some careless play and poor decision making cost them dearly. Half-time St Oliver's 1-5 Dunleer 2-3.

It was a confident and composed second half showing from St Oliver's that ultimately decided this contest. Captain David Andrews got St Oliver's going with an early score before Ciaran Reilly who had made the switch to the edge of the square by this stage collected a cross shot from Philip Kirwan and dispatched the ball to the back of the net. Ciaran's move to full forward worked very well for St Oliver's as David Andrews had more joy in the space afforded to a wing forward and Ciaran seemed more comfortable at No.14. Both players linked well in attack and Ciaran was unluckly on at least two occasions to see well worked efforts at points, stray narrowly wide. At the other end of the field St Oliver's full back line of Stephen McEvoy, flanked either side by his younger brother Paul and the ever improving Ben Bannon, swept up everything that came their way. There excellent reading of the game, strength in the tackle and distribution provided the platform for many of the St Oliver's attacks downfield. David Andrews and Hayden Fitzpatrick finished further St Oliver's moves to stretch the lead out to five, however similarly to the first half, some sloppy play from St Oliver's was punished as Dunleer pushed on, and reduced the deficit to a single score with a brace of points in a strong five minute spell. With Dunleer in the ascendancy and more committed to attack, St Oliver's corner forward Adam Harper who produced a strong second half showing got a vital point for St Oliver's to stretch their lead out to four points. It was backs to the wall for St Oliver's for the last few minutes as Dunleer piled forward into attack. Strong resolute and disciplined defensive work saw St Oliver's hold out for a much deserved win. In the closing stages of the game St Oliver's worked very well as a defensive unit, with Stephen Mc Evoy in particular standing out. The defensive shift put in by forwards Nathan Lewellyn and Hayden Fitzpatrick when required also requires a notable mention.

In order to win games like this, strong performances are required all over the pitch, the stand out performers for St Oliver's today were Man of the Match; Stephen Mc Evoy, Hayden Fitzpatrick, James Carroll and Ben Bannon.

St Oliver's: Caoimhin O Brien, Ben Bannon, Stephen McEvoy, Paul McEvoy, Ronan Little, Nuel Onianwa, James Harper, Shane Brodigan, James Carroll, Ciaran Reilly, Philip Kirwan, Nathan Lewellyn, Adam Harper, David Andrews, Hayden Fitzpatrick, Liam O Neill, Donald Campbell, Norbert Potomski, Mark Carroll
