Student Awards 2016-17

The Annual Awards ceremony took place in St. Oliver’s Community College on Thursday night 18th May. Principal Mr. John Halpin, staff and students of the college were joined at the ceremony by  Mr. Fergus O Dowd T.D., Senator  Gerald Nash, Damien Martin representing Irish Cement members of the Board of Management, representatives of the Parents Council, Anne Marie Brady and Theresa Dillon, former pupils, Irene Fuentes Mc Donnell, Daniel Danev, Christopher Brady  and a large gathering of proud parents and families. The Ceremony was successfully hosted by Mr. Paul O Neill and over one hundred awards were presented on the night.

The major award winners included  6th year student Jack Synnott who won the  Paul Hoey/Marita Mc Guinness Student of the Year Award.  Jack was presented with a specially commissioned silver disc crafted by Elaine Hanrahan of the Millmount craft centre. Julia Madojutimi and Luke healy (6th year) shared the  Senior Student Award with the Junior Award going to Jodie O Brien and Aaron Pepper of 3rd year. The L.C.A. Senior Student of the Year was awarded to Jasmine Cunningham. This award was kindly sponsored by Irish Cement and was presented by Damien Martin. The Transition Year activities award was shared by Mercedes Stanley and Matthew Mc Creedy. P.E student of the year went to Sean Toner and Mr. Tony O Callaghan presented the Larry Meegan Cup to sports person of the year James Carroll (5th yr)  who earned his first U18 International School’s cap for the Republic of  Ireland earlier this year. Adam O Leary of 1st year received the citizenship award on behalf of his class 1 Dove from Mr. Fergus O Dowd T.D. in recognition of their fundraising efforts for the Children’s Ward of  Our Lady of  Lourdes Hospital and Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

St. Oliver’s also welcomed back two of  its’ former pupils, Irene Fuentes Mc Donnell and Daniel Danev who were presented with a specially commissioned piece of crystal to mark their outstanding results in the Leaving Certificate 2016.

The guests and audience were treated to a wonderful performance by former student Christopher Brady who entertained during the interval.
The evening was a great success and a very enjoyable occasion for all concerned especially for the students and their families. Congratulations to all.
