Student Awards 2017-18

The Annual Awards ceremony took place in St. Oliver’s Community College on Thursday night 17th May.  Principal Mr. John Halpin, staff and students of the college were joined at the ceremony by Lord Mayor Pio Smith,  Senator Gerald Nash,  Cormac Bohan ( Board of Management),  John Carey and Teresa Dillon,(Parents Council), writer Declan Gorman, former pupils Julia Madojutimi and Jack Synnott and a large gathering of proud parents and families. The Ceremony was successfully hosted by Mr. Paul O Neill and over one hundred awards were presented on the night.
The major award winners included  6th year student Joseph Catlett who won the  Paul Hoey/Marita Mc Guinness Student of the Year Award.  Joseph was presented with a specially commissioned ceramic piece by local artist Sarah Mc Kenna. Nicole Vultur and Andrej Gorochov (6th year) shared the  Senior Student Award with the Junior Award going to Darcy Lawler and Sean O Brien of 3rd year. The L.C.A. Senior Student of  the Year was jointly awarded to Cathal Freeman and Ciaran Hand. This award was kindly sponsored by Irish Cement.  Senior artist of the year went to Hannah Murphy. Athlete of the year went to Kate Kelly (2nd yr)  and Deputy Principal Mr. Ian Gardiner presented the Larry Meegan Cup to sports person of the year Clinton Odofile (5th yr)  who earned his first U16 International School’s cap (basketball) for the Republic of  Ireland earlier this year. Class 5b received the citizenship award from Lord Mayor Pio Smith in recognition of their fundraising efforts for the “Make a wish Foundation”. St. Oliver’s also welcomed back two of  its’ former pupils, Julia Madojutimi and Jack Synnott who were presented with a specially commissioned piece of crystal to mark their outstanding results in the Leaving Certificate 2017.
The guests and audience were treated to a wonderful performance by  students Evelina Stefan and Shane Mc Allister who entertained during the interval.  The evening was a great success and a very enjoyable occasion for all concerned especially for the students and their families. Congratulations to all.
